Petformed mattresses and dog beds are products of the Polish company Petformed, featuring a unique filling technology called Oxymesh. Interestingly, it’s not foam

One standout feature of the Oxymesh filling is that it’s fully washable—not just the cover, but the entire stuffing can be cleaned with cold water, but that’s not all.

If you’re considering purchasing a Petformed mattress or dog bed, you’re in the right place. Over the past three weeks, our dogs, Roxy and Rambo, have put these beds to the test.

Get comfortable and find out what we think about these pet beds. In our review, we’ll focus on testing the main benefits of Petformed beds: ease of getting up, simple and quick washing, and superior comfort.

The star of our photos is Rambo, a 25kg mixed-breed German Shepherd. For our testing, we’ll be using the XL mattress and XL dog bed. Ready to dive in?

Here’s a quick overview of both models:

Petformed Mattress

The mattress, including its cover, has a thickness of 4 inches (10 cm). The cover can be easily removed thanks to a zipper at the very bottom of the mattress.

Pictured here is the XL mattress, measuring 41 x 25.5 inches (104 x 65 cm), which comfortably fits both Rambo and Roxy (one at a time).

Petformed Dog Bed

The sleeping surface of the bed is 10 cm thick, with the overall height reaching 20 cm. Like the mattress, the bed’s cover is removable for easy cleaning.

Pictured is the XL size, measuring 104 x 65 cm, which is perfect for Roxy and Rambo. However, the usable sleeping area is slightly smaller than the mattress due to the added side supports.

Differences Between the Mattress and the Dog Bed

The main difference is the addition of bolsters on the bed, providing extra support for your dog to rest their head and snuggle against the sides.

While a flat mattress might not suit every dog due to the lack of side support, aside from the bolsters, the mattress and the bed share the same features.

Is Standing Up from the Petformed Easier?

Petformed highlights that their beds make standing up easier due to their high springiness. But is this really true? Let’s test the springiness and find out.

On the left, we have the Petformed filling, in the center is a regular dog bed, and on the right is the memory foam from an orthopedic mattress.

Surprisingly, the foam from the standard bed is springier than the orthopedic foam, which was unexpected.

As shown, the Petformed filling is indeed the most elastic of the three. But does this added springiness actually make it easier for dogs to get up? Let’s put it to the real test.

Comparing Getting Up from a Petformed Mattress vs. a Regular Bed

We clearly see that Rambo got up much more smoothly from the Petformed mattress—he didn’t need to exert much effort and was able to rise calmly and slowly.

In contrast, on the regular bed, he had to get up more quickly as his paws sank into the soft surface. This clearly supports the manufacturer’s claim about the ease of standing up.

Additionally, there was no grunting from Rambo while getting up from Petformed, which occurred with the other bed.

Is Washing Petformed Easy?

One of Petformed’s standout features is that you can wash both the cover and the filling of the entire bed. Let’s see how this works in practice with the mattress and its filling.

Washing the Mattress

Simply place the cover in the washing machine and set it to wash at 30 degrees Celsius.

We washed the filling in the shower using cold water. Remember to shake out any excess water from inside to speed up the drying process.

In about 2 hours, both the filling and the cover were completely dry (this test was done in August on a shaded terrace at 25°C).

The entire process—from removing the cover to washing, drying, and putting it back together—took around 2 hours.

It took just a minute to unpack, 5 minutes to wash the filling thoroughly, shake it out, and set up the washing machine.

Overall, washing the Petformed mattress is effortless, and most importantly, it dries quickly, so your dog won’t have to wait long to get back to their bed.

Washing the Dog Bed

I must admit, removing the cover from the dog bed is a bit trickier compared to the mattress. The filling has hooks that help the cover fit snugly, making it a little more challenging to take off.

It took me a few minutes to figure out how to detach it, but after about 5 minutes, the cover was off. I expect it will be easier next time, but it’s definitely more complicated than removing the mattress cover.

Washing both the cover and the filling is just as straightforward as with the mattress—the side bolsters don’t add any difficulty. The bed dries just as quickly, and the entire process took about 2.5 hours.

However, reassembly was slightly longer; securing the hooks took around 10 minutes. In total, removing and reattaching the cover took me about 20 minutes. Despite taking a bit longer, the overall process is still far simpler than cleaning foam-filled beds.

Are Petformed Beds Comfortable?

A key question is whether Petformed beds are comfortable to your dog.

For Roxy and Rambo, there was no hesitation—they took to the beds right away and were instantly sold on day one.

I placed their favorite toys on the beds to make them feel more familiar, and Rambo quickly settled in, refusing to leave for quite a while. This photo clearly captures how much he loves it!

He wriggled around, gave it a good sniff, and then settled in for a nap.

Roxy was a bit more cautious at first, but by the evening, she too curled up on the mattress and fell asleep with ease.

I even left their old beds nearby for comparison, but it was clear they preferred the new ones.

Conclusion

The innovative Oxymesh filling provides high elasticity, making it easier for dogs to stand up, as confirmed by our tests.

Both the mattress and the bed are easy to clean, although removing the bed cover can be a bit challenging due to the attached hooks. A design improvement would be appreciated.

Our dogs quickly embraced their new beds, leaving the old ones behind without a second thought. Petformed is a great choice for pet owners willing to invest in high-quality dog beds.

One important note: if you want a dog bed with the same laying area as the mattress, consider choosing one size larger.

In our test, we compared an XL mattress with an XL bed, and while both were sufficiently large for our dogs, it’s important to note that the bolsters reduce the available sleeping space.

The manufacturer offers a generous one-year guarantee—if anything happens to the bed or mattress, they’ll replace the cover or filling.

For those on a budget, the mattress is a more affordable option that still offers excellent joint support, though it lacks side bolsters. The bed, on the other hand, provides everything but comes at a higher price.

Overall, both products are great options, especially if your dog has joint issues, frequently wets their bed, or if you’re tired of a dog mattress that wears out quickly.

Update 12.09.2024

It’s been six months since my dogs started using the new beds, and I must say, they still look brand new. The fillings haven’t crumpled, and washing the beds is easy once you get the hang of it.

Honestly, in these six months, I’ve only washed the mattress and bed three times. Most of the time, a quick wipe of the cover with a cloth is enough to keep them clean.

Recently, my brother visited and commented that my house no longer has the dog smell it used to. It turns out the old beds were likely the culprits.

I’ve also heard from friends that the new models no longer have hooks, making washing even easier—a big plus for Petformed for listening to customer feedback.

In summary, after six months of use, the beds still look as good as new, and I’ve had no issues. I’ll post another update in six months to let you know if the beds have stood the test of time. Until then, stay tuned!
